Band Rules
1. Good behaviour is expected at all times from all Band members, while in the Bandroom, and when engaged in Band activities. Coarse or vulgar language will not be permitted. No member will bring discredit on the Band through their appearance or conduct when in public.
2. Every member is entitled to respect from their fellow members. Bullying or intimidation of any member will not be tolerated.
3. The Musical Director, subject to general guidelines from the Committee, has responsibility for the musical standard of the Band. He or she has authority to assign members to any position in the Band. The MD may suspend any member from performances, should he/she consider that member to be insufficiently prepared.
4. The MDs decision in relation to musical and performance matters shall be accepted as final by all members.
5. Members are expected to attend all rehearsals and engagements. Members must seek permission in advance from the MD to miss rehearsals or engagements, citing a valid reason. This must be done in good time, to allow the MD time to make necessary adjustments. Allowances may be made for emergencies.
6. Unauthorised absences are considered a serious act of misconduct, and will be subject to disciplinary procedures by the Committee.
7. Any playing member who fails to attend three consecutive rehearsals must discuss their position with the MD before attending further rehearsals.
8. Members are expected to be seated, and prepared to play, at the given time for rehearsals.
9. Due attention must be paid to the MD during rehearsals and performances, with a minimum of conversation, which is distracting to the MD and other members.
10. Members are expected to be present at the stated time for band events, and to assist with logistics.
11. Instruments, uniforms and any other accessories or equipment provided by the band, for use by the members shall remain the property of the Band. Said members shall be responsible for the safe keeping, cleaning, maintenance, and insurance against loss, theft or damage of instruments and equipment in their care.
12. Unless otherwise instructed, full uniform shall be worn at all Band engagements. Members are reminded that clean, polished black leather shoes, and black socks must be supplied and worn by the member. Neckties must be properly knotted, and worn with a closed shirt/blouse collar.
13. Any membership fee or subscription as set out by the Band Committee must be paid in full by the due date by all members. Any member who is in arrears of two months fees shall be notified of same, and expected to clear all arrears within one further month. Any member who has difficulty with the payment of fees may come to a confidential arrangement with the Band Secretary and Treasurer. A member who fails to comply with the above shall cease to be a member.
14. The Band Committee shall consider any infringement of any of the above rules, and shall determine the appropriate penalty. Should the Committee find it necessary to discuss a members conduct, that member shall be notified in advance of the meeting, and may attend the meeting to speak in their own defence.
15. Persistent infringement of any rules by a member may result in their membership being withdrawn.
Agreed by Committee 27th August 2008
