Would you like to join the FCB ?
There are a couple of ways to join the Band, the first way is aimed at young children from 7 years of age.
1. Mini Mozarts - Being run in association with Fermoy Concert Band, 'Mini Mozarts' is a beginners' music course for children between the ages of 7 and 10 years of age. The aim of this course is to introduce children to the basic fundamentals of music through the mediums of song, fun and games.
The 'Mini Mozart' students will have the chance to try out all the instruments available in a concert band, including percussion, flutes and trumpets. This will give them a unique and valuable insight into the sounds and challenges of the various instruments and will also, if they wish to enrol for lessons come September, help them to decide which of the instruments is most suited to them.
The classes will run every Saturday morning for eight weeks beginning September 21st. At the end of the course, the group will take part in a Finale Concert with the members of Fermoy Concert Band and Youth Band.
One of the course leaders, Niamh Ryan, studied music at the Cork School of Music. Here, she received a Masters in Performance in 2001. She was a teacher of Musicianship at the Cork School of Music from 2000 to 2002 and is currently a flute teacher with the County Cork School of Music.
On the subject of 'Mini Mozarts', Niamh has said: 'I am really looking forward to beginning these classes. I think they are a wonderful way to introduce your child to music in a fun group environment. The classes will be very interactive with an emphasis on performance. The final concert will give the students a chance to show off what they have learned to their family and friends as well as getting to hear other children perform solo and with the Band. 2. Children over 10 years and Adults - If anybody from the age of 10 years upwards (no limit) would like to learn a musical instrument, please contact Phil Dunphy +353851284577 We have classes in Brass, Woodwind and Percussion.
