Regulations
Ratified By the Membership at Annual General Meeting 30th January 2003

1. Ordinary Membership of the Band shall be open to all, subject to the applicant being nominated and seconded by two members, that nomination being accepted by the Committee, and the applicant accepting the Band Constitution, Regulations and Band Rules. An Ordinary Member may be either a playing member or non-playing member. All Ordinary Members shall have full voting rights at a General Meeting of members, except those members under sixteen years of age, who may vote by proxy through a parent or guardian.
2. The Band shall be governed by an Executive Committee, elected annually at an Annual General Meeting of the Ordinary Members. The Committee shall comprise of a Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer, and seven others. The Committee shall be empowered to co-opt a maximum of two members, should vacancies arise.
3. The Chairperson shall be responsible for chairing meetings of the Committee or the general membership, shall maintain good order at such meetings, and endeavour that agendas are dealt with fully and efficiently. The Chairperson will guide and advise the Secretary and Committee, ensuring that they effectively advance the broader development of the Band, and pursue the members’ interests as determined by Members’ General Meeting.
4. The Secretary shall maintain accurate records of all correspondence within and outside the Band, and shall keep proper minutes of all meetings. The Secretary will fulfil the role of Chief Executive Officer and will, by direct action or by delegation, ensure that all day-to-day activities of the Band are executed to optimal effect.
5. The Treasurer shall keep a full and proper record of all income and expenditure of the Band. The Treasurer shall provide a detailed annual report to the membership at the Annual General Meetings, and to the Band Trustees, and summary reports at each committee meeting.. The Treasurer shall have a direct role in overseeing all the band’s financial affairs.
6. The Committee shall be bound by the instructions of the ordinary members of the Band, as determined by General Meetings, which will occur at least once every calendar year. Standing orders for the conduct of such meetings shall be determined by the Committee in advance, and made known to the members in good time.
7. The Committee shall appoint a Musical Director, who will be responsible for the musical development and performance of the band, subject to general policy guidelines from the Committee.
8. The Committee shall have full power to make Band Rules for the good order of the band, and such Band Rules shall be posted in the Band Room. If any member should disobey the Band Rules, or bring the good name of the Band into disrepute, he/she shall be liable to such penalty as the Committee may think proper, including expulsion.
9. The Committee may, at a General Meeting, propose to honour any person for exceptional service to the Band.
10. The members of the band shall not have any claim to property rights of any kind on any Band property, but same shall be vested in a Board of three Trustees. The Board shall have full power and authority to maintain any action at law or other proceedings in respect thereof, or any injury which may be done to same.
11. The same Trustees shall be elected at the first annual meeting of the Band under these Regulations, and shall hold office during life or until they shall respectively resign. Vacancies for Trusteeship will be filled by election at the next General Meeting. No person may serve as a Trustee and Committee member simultaneously.
12. No change may be made to these Regulations, except by vote at a General Meeting.
